‘shout out loud’ – stop the flood of plastics

In this photo ocean workshop, we discuss the problem of plastic pollution, find solutions, and the children take portraits of each other.

In the first half of the workshop, we examine the origin of plastics, how the material occurs in our daily lives and the problems it causes to environmental and human health.  In a discussion format, we look at alternatives to plastic and solutions to curbe the plastic pandemic, and how to move towards a non-toxic circular economy. The workshop pledges for living Zero Waste and works with scientific data.

In the second half, the children learn to use use photography as a means for creative expression. This workshop teaches the principles of photography and how mood, messages and a deeper meaning can be conveyed visually.

The results of the photo session are printed and the children write a message to decision-makers by hand on the portraits. Once photographed again, the final portraits serve as a poster campaign and exhibition

The inauguration of the portrait exhibition took place at the UN Ocean conference in Nice, in June 2025. It was accompanied by a  role-playing game of children, a public-facing interactive youth event.

Ocean. Now! is working on extending both the portrait series as well as accompanying youth-led events at international conferences.

This project is realized with the friendly support from Sony Germany.
